I ended up reading this book for a class. As far as books for school goes, you're not going to find one that you're more surprised made it into the curriculum. It's very much set in the time it was written and it is written in a dialogue style, so people may not like it that much. However, it still works as a social commentary of the time period.

A necessary read for anyone interested in seeing how life was almost 100 years ago. Little has changed for minorities. True, the patois is hard to get through. McKay is an important piece to the puzzle in understanding the early Jim Crow days.
I read an excerpt of this book in my literature class and after researching the author I became intrigued. I would recommend this to anyone that is interested in the Harlem renaissance, this book makes you feel like you were transported back in time.
truly authentic to the brilliance of the harlem renaissance. his words are controversial but incredibly thought provoking and interesting. A must read for anyone interested in the period!
Love it.
Read it for school, better than I thought but it's no greatest novel ever written deal.
Nice quality, quick shipping, thank you
Claude McKay is a much better poet than autobiographical novelist; perhaps that's why his literary reputation is based primarily on his poetry.
