I rather liked the book. But author totally failed to mention that this is a remake of Russian fairy tale "Marya Marevna". That is a Russian national fairy tale. It does not have an author and it is nice to see a translation of one. Plus Peter Norwood did ad his own elements so I will not tug this as a plagiarism, but a mention of where the story is from would be nice. I always liked Russian fairy tales more than European, because the female characters are awesome and the story seems more balanced. Though it does some times happen to be unbalanced in other detection: we have a super girls who date a total morons. But those morons do love them and go to foolish lengths to prove it.:)))

no time to speak of excellent desciptions, poetic prose, and lovely characters. I'm going for the next book in the series.
I really liked this book.
This is the story of Prince I van, who is very much a Russian folk hero. He beats Baba Yaga and others with the help of many magical beasts and three magical brothers in law.
Far fetched even for the genre.
Morwood has created his own fantasy story based on Russian mythology and folklore that stands on its own as a story, but enjoys the echoes of mythological recognition. Great stuff with Koshchey the Deathless and Baba Yaga, and told with a rhythm and cadence that evoke the sense of a folktale. Very enjoyable.
