Both Sides of Time Caroline B Cooney Books
I've always been fascinated by the concept of time travel. I like to write and my stories end up in this theme time and time again. I was in 8th grade when I saw this book in a school catalog and read its description. When I got the book, I started reading and could NOT put it down! Even 6 years later it still holds my admiration. It's one of my very favorite books still out of the many I have read, and I read every night. A 300 page book takes me 3-4 days!Annie is a high school girl with a handsome but unfortunately unromantic, car-obsessed boyfriend. He lives at the soon to be demolished, now apartmented, Stratton Mansion. Annie dreams of the days when the mansion was at its peak and of the romance that must have occurred there. Suddenly she finds herself flung 100 years into the past in a real-life true romance, the rival of rich but plain, love-stricken Harriet who pines for the same man as Annie. What Annie didn't bargain for was a murder mystery and a plot against the entire Stratton family by several wicked characters, working together and separately for their own selfish goals and twisted motives. It's a race against time to save herself, her true love and those around him.
I recommend Both Sides of Time, and its companion Out of Time to anyone with a heart for romance and a desire to live in times long past. The characters will surprise you and will make you think twice about human nature, you might even find pity for those you hate and unexpected sympathy. Your heart will be in your throat to the very end.

Both Sides of Time Caroline B Cooney Books Reviews
Both Sides of Time was a fun story in some parts, incredibly serious and possibly tragic in others, but with an ending that I enjoyed. Annie Lockwood's life seemed relatable and normal, with the typical brother who doesn't seem to get along with her and a father who is having an affair. She has a boyfriend; she has some friends.
But on the last day of school, when Annie goes to the beach next to the old Stratton Mansion that will be torn down, she finds herself in 1985. She doesn't understand how she got there, but she quickly meets Strat, the son of a robber baron. He is to be engaged to his father's even richer ward, Harriet, but of course he falls in love with Annie. Strat, Harriet, and Strat's younger sister Devonny all welcome the unfamiliar girl in shockingly scant clothes, but others don't seem to. In fact, Annie is convicted of a murder that occured at the mansion, and must figure out who did it so that the blame stays off her. Throw in a couple more time travels, and you've got Both Sides of Time.
I found a lot of the characters to be lacking in personality. A lot of the ones from 1895 were nice if they were the good guys and against Annie if they were the bad guys. They mostly kept boring old Victorian Era standards of how to act and what to say, which made most of them seem pleasant but very vain. Everyone pities Harriet, who doesn't look incredibly nice. Social standards dominate too much. At the same time, her family and friends also manage to lack personality. The boyfriend is too wrapped up in working on his car to care about Annie, but when she disappears for a couple days, he's the loving boyfriend everyone expects.
It seems that the whole concept of going through Time is meant to be very vague, as other strange forces in Cooney's works are. It's almost a curse, and even though it is impossible to control it, Annie is always lucky enough to go through time almost whenever she wants so that almost everything works out for the best. I found that to be a little odd. I enjoyed how mysterious it was but at the same time wanted answers. It's what you expect in YA books these days - there is always an answer somewhere, conveniently packaged up. The mystery of the story is intensified by the mystery of how Annie got to the mansion.
The problems at home ground the story and make Annie a bit more real. She's just a regular girl who managed to get lost in Time. She's not some special girl with superpowers of time travel. She's not that girl in the Magic Tree House series (whose name I forget but for some reason think is also coincidentally Annie).
Fast shipping. Product as expected.
This is a good book, and I like the idea. I didn't realize it was about such young kids though, kind of weird lol
this book had me reading nonstop from the beginning- it's like a mini-thriller for kids/young adults.
i'd recommend this book. ]
Love these books they are a great series to read. The characters are lovable and you really want to see them get what they want.
